The After Parties will be held in “Salsa For You” (at Universitatii Plaza beside Intercontinental Hotel).

Puerto Rico Salsa Open Qualifying Round for Balkan Countries
The Puerto Rico Salsa Open is an International Salsa Dance competition open to all nationalities, cultures, and countries.
At the Salsafest 2011 festival, there will be a competition to establish the couple which will represent Romania at the Puerto Rico Salsa Open 2011.
Categories
There is only one category of competition – Open.
Eligibility, Registration and Costs Any dancer, 16 years or older, is eligible to participate. Hence, it is the responsibility of each participant to obtain all necessary documentation needed to travel to Puerto Rico.
All participants, once registered, accept the rules of the organizing committee and agree that the organizing committee may use their photos for any ligitimate manner that is morally acceptable and proper.
The couples can registrate by contacting any of the organizers until the 3rd of March, 2011.
Registration fee
• for the couples which don’t have fullpass for the festival: 50 EUR.
• For the couples which have fullpass for the festival: the registration fee is included in the price of the fullpass. Prices for the fullpass: 60EUR (until Dec, 22nd), 70EUR (until February, 28th), 80 EUR (the week of the festival).
Program
The competition will take place on Saturday, March, 6th. Depending on the number of couples registered, the semifinal is scheduled between 1 p.m and 2:30 p.m, and the final after 11 p.m.
All the competitors must be at Rin Grand Hotel at 12 p.m., for the semifinal and 10 p.m., for the final. Competitors should be ready to dance, with makeup and costumes.
Those competitors who fail to comply with the scheduled times of the competition will automatically be eliminated without a right to a refund of their registration fee.
Judges
To assure fairness in the competition and guaranteeing objectivity in evaluating the competitors, the judges will be selected from a group of the world’s most renowned instructors and dancers.
Competition Format
The competition format for the qualifying round will be dependent on how many dancers register. However, in the semifinal, as well as in the final, there will be 2 rounds:
A: Groups
All the participants, at the same time or separated into small groups, will be on the dance floor for aproximatly 3 minutes. The music will be provided by the organizing committee.
B: Individual Pairs (Couples)
Each couple will have a maximum of 2 minutes to demonstrate a choreographed presentation, using their own music.
Scoring Participants will be scored in a just and impartial manner irrespective of what style of dance is performed, be it lineal or circular, or timed on 1 or 2.
The coreographies shall not contain acts of violence, pornography, racism, sexism or eroticism. Judges will score participants in the following technical areas:
1. Stage Presence – the participants attitude on stage.
2. Visual Presentation – participants’ aesthetics relevant to the skit, as to hairstyle, costume and makeup, etc.
3. Choreography – development and evolvement of the skit, its complexity, movements and synchronization of same.
4. Technical – knowledge and execution of the movements making up the choreography.
5. Participant Interaction – coordination of movements between participants.
6. Rhythm – time utilized to execute the skit and the consistency of same.
7. Creativity – utilization of new and distinct resources and movement in the choreography.
Music
The music used must be Salsa or Mambo only and without any special effects or combined with any other musical genre.
You will not be allowed to mix salsa and mambo. However, you may edit within a particular theme in order to achieve the required duration of the skit.
Final Decisions
Participants must bring their arranged music on CD not lasting more than 2 minutes, nor less than 1:50 minutes. You must provide 2 copies to the competition director, that will not be returned.
Participants must accept the decision of the Judges’ panel and the organizing committee as final and unappealable.
Expressions of disapproval by the participants, their trainers, coaches, or family members towards the judges, organizers, the participating public, sponsors, or any other person or entity related to festival are strictly prohibited.
ROUND TABLE
Round table with artists, personalities and public
After every workshop, a panel with prominent personalities of the Salsa community will be held for 5 minutes. This will allow a free discussion with the public. The following topics are to be discussed; the public is welcomed to make all kind of -common interest- questions to the Panel.
• Success of Salsa Congresses: evolution in US and Europe and future trends.
• Salsa as visual enjoyment, means of communication – full of imagery, writing of an immediate reality.
• The Salsa Community, sources and evolution in Europe and the world.
• My Salsa, My style (On1, On 2, Cuban, Los Angeles,), My social dancing, …
